At the Metal Gear 25th Anniversary Event, Konami officially announced the next canon game: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. Big Boss will be the main character of the game.
On August 25, 2012, Kojima Productions Podcast member Ken Mendoza and Chris Johns, his sidekick, revealed that Metal Gear series' 25th Anniversary announcement will "shake up" the video game industry.
Kojima tweeted an image of the set up of the stage of the 25th Anniversary Event on August 29, with the Metal Gear Solid Facebook page later posting the image contained in his tweet on 5:15 PM the same day. In addition, Kojima also planned to do autographs of limited edition posters relating to the 25th Anniversary event at the PAX event on September 1, which the Facebook page announced on August 28 at 3:42 PM.
They eventually showed a teaser and demo for the game. Several comments from the demo posted on twitter also hint that the crawling mechanic returns after its absence in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. In addition, it also alludes to Big Boss driving a jeep and calling an evacuation via helicopter. In addition, the story hints also mention Paz Ortega Andrade and Mother Base, although whether they are just lead-in references from Peace Walker or if they'll actually appear in the game, and in the former's case, whether her survival will be revealed or not, have not been determined. The tagline as well as the scene before Big Boss's appearance hints that the game's plot will deal with Big Boss and Zero's proxy war. Afterwards, Kojima talked a bit about the game while also showing footage: He mentioned in particular that he intends to make a twist to the stealth genre, namely that even if caught, the player can use all the resources at their disposal to escape rather than automatically getting a game over. The demo is said to run on a PC and played using an Xbox 360 controller. While the game and engine are designed with both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in mind, Kojima stated the engine will cater to next-gen consoles.
Konami announced the next Metal Gear Solid game at a Japanese press event to mark the 25th anniversary of the franchise. Called Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, it makes a big departure from previous games in the series by being open world.
